December in cursive

December in cursive takes one pen lift: after the capital D, which does not connect. Then write the rest in one stroke. The e joins up into the c, the m has two humps, the b climbs to the headline and hands off at the midline to an e, and the r ends the word.

How to write December in cursive

Follow the picture above from left to right. The steps name each letter as it is written in this word, with every pen lift called out.

December, step by step

  1. Capital D: start a little below the headline and slant a straight stem down to the baseline. Curl left into a small loop, swing right along the baseline, climb the right side to the headline and over the top, and finish with a short tail near the stem. Lift the pen: the D does not connect.
  2. e: start on the baseline just right of the D. Rise into the small loop of the e, come back down, and leave along the baseline in an upturn that becomes the join into the c.
  3. c: from the e's upturn, start under the midline, pull left and down to the baseline, and curve right along it. Leave the right side open and turn up: the upturn is the join.
  4. e: from the c's upturn, loop the second e between the baseline and the midline and leave along the baseline into the m.
  5. m: slant down to the baseline, retrace, roll over a rounded hump at the midline, slant down, and repeat for a second hump. Three downstrokes, two humps, then a short undercurve.
  6. b: climb from the m all the way to the headline, loop left at the top, and come straight down to the baseline. Curve up into a small bowl whose top stops at the midline, and carry across at that height.
  7. e: start the last e from the b's stop at the midline, loop, and come down to the baseline.
  8. r: undercurve up past the midline to a small peak, step right with a short shoulder, slant down to the baseline, and finish with an upturn. The only pen lift in the whole word was after the D.

The capital D does not connect

The cursive D is a stand-alone capital. It starts a little below the headline, slants a straight stem to the baseline, curls left into a small loop, swings right along the baseline, climbs the right side to the headline, and comes back over the top with a short tail. Then lift. The e starts fresh on the baseline, so there is a clear gap between the D and the e. Joining them is the most common mistake in this word.

e, c, e: two rounded letters in a row

After the D, the word begins a run of e, c and e. The e loops and leaves along the baseline into the c; the c starts under the midline, rounds to the baseline, and its upturn carries into the second e. Keep the c open on the right and the e loops small, or the three letters collapse into one blob. Writing them at the same height, between the baseline and the midline, is what makes the word look even.

The m and the b

The m has two humps and three downstrokes, so count the legs on the baseline, not the humps. The b is the only tall letter after the D: it climbs from the m to the headline, loops left, comes straight down, and curves up into a small bowl that stops at the midline. The e that follows starts from that stop, at midline height.

December in cursive: questions

How do you write December in cursive?

Write a capital D, lift the pen, then write e, c, e, m, b, e and r in one joined stroke. The m has two humps, the b reaches the headline and stops its bowl at the midline, and the second e starts from that stop.

Does the cursive capital D connect to the e?

No. The D is a stand-alone capital. Finish the top tail, lift the pen, and start the e on the baseline.

How many pen lifts are there in December in cursive?

One, after the capital D. The rest of the word is a single joined stroke. In the lowercase form, december, there are none.

Which letters in December are tall?

Only the capital D and the b reach the headline. The e, c, m, e and r all stay between the baseline and the midline.

How do you write Dec. in cursive?

Capital D, lift, then e and c joined. Lift again and add the period on the baseline.

Can I copy and paste December in cursive?

Yes. The copy box on this page gives you Unicode script text for a caption or card. It is a font style, not joined handwriting, so the letters will not connect the way the picture does.
